The Earle & Welford Families of Yorkshire, England 1268 - 1911
The Earle & Welford Families       of Yorkshire, England               1268 - 1911

Descendants of Hannah Welford [1792-1862]

Note

The following family information records the life events of Hannah Welford and her descendants. Hannah was born in Brotton in 1792, to parents George & Elizabeth Welford, and died at Howe House, Egton in 1862

Her husband, also a Welford was born about the same year as Hannah in the district of Guisborough according to the 1851 census. His place in the Welford family can most likely be linked to the Catholic Welfords of Crathorne (see 1793 below)

Ugthorpe Registers

1791

Hannah, daughter of George & Elizabeth Welford (from First Communions)

St Margaret's Church, Brotton

Baptism – 10th June 1792

Hannah, daughter of George & Elizabeth Welford

All Saints Church, Great Ayton

Baptism – 28th April 1793

William Welfitt, son of Ann Welfitt

Note: This is very likely the same William Welford who married Hannah Welford in 1815. His mother, Ann Welfitt is again likely to be the Ann Welford born in 1776 to William & Martha Welford of Crathorne Parish and must have been a single mother based on the lack of a father's name in the register entry

St Hilda's Church, Egton

Marriage – 25th January 1815

Hannah Welford [of Brotton] & William Welford

Baptism – 24th October 1816

Elizabeth daughter of William & Hannah Welford

Baptism – 23rd February 1819

Mary daughter of William & Hannah Welford

Baptism – 28th July 1821

Joseph son of William & Hannah Welford

Baptism – 16th April 1823

Ann daughter of William & Hannah Welford

Baptism – 4th October 1825

Hannah daughter of William & Hannah Welford

Ugthorpe Parish Registers

1826

William and Hannah Welford are noted as accompanying Abrose Lyth a recently widowed farmer from Howe House, Egton to the Easter Communions at Ugthorpe.

Ambrose Lyth had married Mary Welford in 1783, Mary being the sister of Hannah's father, George Welford. When Abrose died in 1835 it seems William and Hannah took over the tenancy of the farm at Howe House where they, and their desecndants remained for many years

St Hilda's Church, Egton

Baptism – 11th January 1828

William son of William & Hannah Welford, Godparents Thomas Welford & Margaret Hoggarth

Baptism – 3rd June 1830

George son of William & Hannah Welford, Godparents Thomas Readman & Margaret Readman
