Note
So far the ancestry of Robert has yet to be fully determined and his place in the Welford family tree remains unresolved. We know from the census records he was born in 1805 at Aislaby, but the IGI index does not have his birth listed which could have named his father and possibly mother. He could have perhaps been the son of George and Mary Welford of 'Greena' or Green Howe if not for the fact they had a son, Robert baptised in 1822. The christian names of his first two children might lend a clue, though Isabella is likely named after Emma's mother, Isabella Dobson. There is also the name, Addison to consider though there are no Welford/Addison marriages on the IGI that match the dates in question.
It is just possible Robert is descended from one of the Welford's of Dunsley which is very near to the village of Aislaby. There is a James Welford baptised in the year 1787 to parents Thomas and Mary Welford who could well be Robert's father and the reason why Robert chose this name for his first-born son after marrying Emma.
Information on the descendants of Robert and Emma now follow: -
